Independent Biennial / Bienale neodvisnih is launching a first-ever open-call for authors that live and work outside of Slovenia, with a focus on Croatia and Serbia. Biennial in its long title Biennial of Slovenian Independent Contemporary Illustration seeks to promote visual works and the contexts in which they appear and the authors of such works. Independent stands for non-censorship of the platform that promotes the highest possible autonomy of the visual works and gives the voice to the creatives community to exhibit and promote whatever they suggest is the most appropriate and suitable.
The desire to connect the platform with the authors of its immediate neighbors stems from the internationalization of the platform in the near future. We give priority to Croatia and Serbia, because of the fact that certain Croatian and Serbian authors have already participated at the Independent Biennial in the past, which speaks in favor of a horizontal connection between authors outside and within the Slovenian border.
We are looking for fresh, innovative, timeless, crazy, strange, classic, and anything in between in visual work, that span on any visual field imaginable – be it fashion, art, design, animation, street art, print, digitalized, experimental, spatial, performative, and includes contemporary illustration in any form of expression as part of the final work or as part of the creative process.

The outcome of your selection is participation in the international exhibition at one of the main cultural institutions Cankarjev dom, Mala galerija, Ljubljana, Slovenia,

The exhibition will display your printed/ digitalized sample of your work.
